Many vessel insurance companies require the vessel owner to have completed a certain amount of days/hours on the water with a USCG licensed captain as an instructor. "New" Vessel Instruction
Many dealers of NEW vessels provide instruction as part of the purchase, but OCYS can help you understand the nuances of a newly purchased used vessel (new to you!). Even if you're an experienced "owner operator", our captains are sure to have experience with your type of vessel. Often, your just handed the keys by the used vessel broker when you buy. We can be there with you to make sure you get to know the boat - and its certain nuances.
California Boater Card
Did you know the state of California has instituted a "boating license"? As of January 1, 2024, the card is required for vessel operators 60 years of age or younger, with the first infraction (not having the card) is a $100.00 ticket. OCYS can help you prepare and pass the online test. At a very minimum we can guide you through the process and prepare you for success.
"Suddenly in Command"
Have you tried teaching your spouse/significant other the basics of the vessel in case you're incapacitated...and you're met with resistance? OCYS can provide the basics of operation, and insure the vital "man over board" steps are taken when your spouse/significant other is "suddenly in command". We find they may not take direction from you, but they will listen to us!
